Cinefable is an independent factual publication about things that actually happened, existed, were discovered, were built, were played, were survived or became part of recorded history.
I publish across seven broad subjects: History & Turning Points, Space & Science, Technology & Invention, Games & Gaming, Places & Wonders, Haunted & Abandoned, and Survival & Disaster.
Most Cinefable articles use a list format because some subjects are better understood as a collection of connected stories rather than one enormous narrative. The format is not an excuse to reduce each entry to a few recycled facts. Each entry should give the reader enough history, context and evidence to understand why it belongs.
Cinefable is interested in unusual material, but unusual does not mean unverified.
A documented event may be strange. A place may have centuries of folklore surrounding it. Several historical sources may disagree about what happened. An invention may have acquired a much cleaner origin story than the surviving record supports.
Those distinctions are part of the story rather than inconveniences to remove from it.
What I Publish
I publish original factual articles based on research from appropriate primary and credible secondary sources.
I do not invent dialogue, private thoughts, motives, encounters or missing parts of an event. I do not present speculation as established fact. I do not turn folklore into evidence merely because a story has been repeated for a long time.
When the available record is uncertain, I would rather leave the uncertainty visible than quietly write around it.
Why Cinefable Exists
There is no shortage of information online.
The harder problem is finding something worth knowing and then telling it without removing the details that made it worth knowing in the first place.
Cinefable exists for that kind of reading.
Remarkable, But Real.
